The pursuit of a career in architecture, inspired by a childhood dream
Born and raised in Curaçao, Zamir’s passion for architecture was ignited at a young age. With humble beginnings playing with Legos, building, and breaking things down countless times, Zamir’s defining moment was when his older brother introduced him to an architectural model he made at the university:
“I fell in love with the idea of creating, and that's when my interest in architecture started developing.”
Upon completing high school, he embarked on his journey towards his dream career. In 2020 he began his studies in Architectural Engineering at the University of Curaçao.
Motivated by a desire for cultural immersion
Driven by a thirst for cultural immersion and fresh perspectives, Zamir’s decision to pursue an international internship was fueled by his innate curiosity and the support of a scholarship from the University of Curaçao. The opportunity for the internship at Studio Akkerhuis in Paris presented itself after receiving a presentation of Waterfort Plaza by APC. This opportunity not only provided him with the means to explore architecture in a different country but also equipped him with knowledge to benefit his studies and to contribute to his community back home.
APC AND STUDIO AKKERHUIS In a collaborative effort with the Algemeen Pensioenfonds van Curaçao, Studio Akkerhuis, alongside local architects IMD, OZ and Lyongo, crafted an urban masterplan for the revitalization of Waterfort Plaza in Willemstad. This visionary plan integrates monumental, functional, and sustainable elements, honoring the area's cultural heritage while envisioning its vibrant future. By embracing the existing cultural-historical fabric, the design aims to enhance its surroundings through the harmonious integration of both new and existing elements, thereby fostering a fresh identity for the area.
