The vacant former Plaza Hotel will soon be stripped. Stripping is necessary to ensure the safety of the surrounding area and to prevent damage to the historic Waterfort from falling objects. Stripping involves the removal of all loose and potentially dangerous building elements such as windows, doors, balconies, furniture, ceilings, electrical wiring, carpeting, and other loose parts. This stripping represents the next crucial step for APC in the sustainable urban development of Waterfort Plaza.
Last year, the asbestos present in the building was successfully and safely removed and disposed. Stripping the building elements is a crucial step for improving the safety of the area and protecting the historic Waterfort.
The stripping will be carried out by the contractor MNO Vervat, under the direction of an expert team performing this important task with the utmost care, prioritizing the safety of both workers and the surrounding area.
The work is scheduled to start at the end of June and is expected to be completed by the end of October this year.
As part of APC and MNO’s sustainability ambitions, usable materials are selected for recycling and reuse during the stripping process. Together, the parties will organize a MarketPlaza to offer these materials. The date of the MarketPlaza will be announced later in the media.
